Abstract. In the new transition period, particularly after 2001, significant spatial and functional changes occurred in the urban development of Sarajevo city. We have focused our research primarily on the new urban development of Sarajevo. Characteristics of the housing stock and new activities of Sarajevo have been shown; a typology of the housing settlements and economic activities has been implemented. A recent, uncontrolled construction of the Sarajevo housing settlements leads to environmental devastation and deepening the economic and social problems of the city.
